YORK, ME -- James B. "Jim" O'Malley Sr., 86, of York, ME, formerly of Lowell, died peacefully November 16, 2013, in York, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Marjorie "Marge" (Sinnett) O'Malley, with whom he had celebrated 62 years of marriage on July 6th.

Born in Lowell, May 15, 1927, he was a son of the late Richard and Stella (Brady) O'Malley. Jim was raised in the Sacred Heart Parish, received his early education at the Sacred Heart School, and attended Lowell High School.

Mr. O'Malley enlisted in the U. S. Navy on June 19, 1944, and proudly served his country aboard the USS Neshoba (APA 216) as a Coxswain. He received the World War II Victory Medal, American Area Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal with one Star, and the Philippine Liberation Medal, and was honorably discharged on May 30, 1946.

Jim furthered his education at the University of Lowell, then apprenticed at Heinz Electric, where he learned to be a proto-type tool and die maker. During his career, he held positions with Itek, the Lowell Technological Institute Research Foundation, and the Nuclear Reactor Department of the University of Lowell. At the time of his retirement in 1996, Jim was an Industrial Technology instructor with the Mechanical Engineering Department of the University of Massachusetts, Lowell.

As a dad, he took great pride in being involved in his son's sporting activities. He served as coach and President of Callery Park Little League Baseball from 1970 -1988, and was President of the Lowell Little League Association for many years. Jim was a founding member of the Chelmsford Lodge of Elks, B.P.O.E. #2310.

A talented handyman, Jim was always willing to help family and friends with household projects. He was most proud of his renovations to the family home on Wilder Street and later, to their retirement home in York.

An avid Red Sox, Patriots and Bruins fan, Jim was thrilled to witness the Sox capture three World Series titles during his lifetime.

He enjoyed spending the last 19 winters in Vero Beach Florida with his wife Marge, where family and friends were always welcome.

A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother, Jim will always be remembered for his unflinching positive attitude and hallmark smile.

In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by two sons, James B. O'Malley Jr. and his wife Nora (Olenchak) of Spencer, and Mark D. O'Malley and his wife Catherine (Neylon) of Lowell. Four grandchildren, Melissa O'Malley Tuomi of Holden, Patrick O'Malley and his fiancée Alli Shaughnessy of Marshfield, Caitlin O'Malley and her fiancé Michael Gudewich of Lowell, and Courtney O'Malley of Lowell. A great-grandson, Gavin Tuomi of Holden. A sister, Mary "Sis" Grand of Lowell, and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late John, Richard (Rick) and Francis (Mike) O'Malley, and godfather and uncle of the late David Grand.
