BRASWELL, Charlie Lamb, 83, born August 29, 1927, the son of the late Richard and Ellen Braswell of Brunswick County, Virginia, died January 1, 2011. He was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran and served on the U.S.S. Neshoba. He was employed by the Whitehead-Harding Company, and by the Virginia Department of Transportation. He was a lifetime member of Independence Methodist Church where he served as an elder. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Maxine Phillips; a sister, Ida Babb of Lawrenceville, Va.; two daughters, Ann Matteson of Hendersonville, N.C., and Brenda Williams of Wendell, N.C.; and three grandsons, Jason Williams, of Raleigh, N.C., Tory Matteson of Broomfield, Colo., and Adam Matteson of Suwon, South Korea. He was predeceased by siblings, Warren Braswell, Ruth Buckner, Louise Mendez, R. J. Braswell, Rosa Megliaccio, Robert Braswell; and half sibling, Lellie Braswell. A graveside service will be held on Monday, January 3, at 1 p.m. in the cemetery of Independence United Methodist Church, Emporia, Va.
