The funeral for Frederick G. Pilon, Jr, 87, will be 11 am Saturday, September 6th, 2014 at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home with Rev. Bruce Chapman, officiating. Burial with Navy honors will follow in Brookside Cemetery. A reception will follow the burial at the Italian-American Club, 192 Bellew Ave. S., Watertown. Calling hours are Friday, September 5th, from 4 pm - 7 pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Jefferson County, 1398 Gotham St., Watertown, NY 13601.

Mr. Pilon, Emerson St. Watertown, and retired owner of Pilon Monument Co., passed away Tuesday, September 2nd at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Suzette and Jason Lentz, Rt. 3, Watertown.

He was born in Adams, May 19th, 1927, a son to Frederick G., and Doris Mae Weldon Pilon, Sr. He spent a large portion of his youth in Henderson Harbor. He graduated from Watertown High School. Fred served in the US Navy during WW II from 1944 to 1946, seeing duty in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre of Operations. He was the youngest third class petty officer aboard his ship, the USS Neshoba, APA216.

Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, Mr. Pilon returned to Watertown where he worked for the New York Air Brake. In 1948, Fred went to work as an apprentice stone cutter with Puffer Monument Co., 1246 Washington St. He and his wife, Maggie, purchased the company in 1962 and changed the name to the Pilon Monument Co. They retired in 1993.

Fred was a life member of Watertown Elks, Eagles Club, North Side Improvement League, Brownville American Legion, the VFW, and the DAV. He enjoyed snowmobiling, being with his family and friends, and spending time at his hunting camp in Barnes Corners.

Fred married Margaret A. Kempf August 3, 1946 at Holy Family Church. Maggie passed away September 10th, 2009.

He is survived by two sons, Gary E. (Susan) and Ronny A. (Cindy Tripp), all of Watertown; two daughters, Cheri A. (John) Indermill and Suzette L. (Jason) Lentz, all of Watertown. Nine grandchildren, Joel Pilon, Becky Badalato, Tracie Fowler, Tricia Garvin, Shelby Cohen, Britn Haviland, Stephanie Murray, Brad Lentz, Alex Lentz; six great-grandchildren, Joelee Tooley-Pilon, William Fowler, Jordyn Badalato, Kole Badalato, Julia Garvin, Colin Garvin; as well as his miniature poodle, Trigger.

Among those that welcomed him home on Tuesday was his companion and beloved pet dog
, Benji.
