He was assistant administrator in the Navy Yard at  Cavite and had been a  prisoner since the Japanese captured the city of Manila. Mr. Copper wrote he weighed 88 pounds. For six months he did all the mending for the camp of 800 men. He contracted beri beri and for three months his feet were so swollen he could not get his shoes on. 44
